Frequently Asked Questions

I have problems installing MobyExplorer
This is most likely due to your phone not supporting the Thawte root certificate. Please go here for information on how to find out if you have this certificate on your phone.

If, after checking the root certificate, it turns out that your phone does not have the Thawte root certificate, then you can still use MobyExplorer by downloading the unsigned version from here.

I get a message that access to File System was denied
This is due to the permission settings for MobyExplorer not being correctly configured. Please go here for instructions on how to configure the access permissions.

Why does the phone keep asking me annoying questions if I allow access to the file system?
This is most likely due to that you are using the un-signed version of MobyExplorer or your permission settings for MobyExplorer are not correctly configured. Please go here for instructions on how to download the signed version of MobyExplorer, or go here for information on how to configure the access permissions.

I've got a Nokia N95 and I can't access my file system using the signed version of MobyExplorer.
This is due to a firmware problem in older firmware of Nokia N95. Nokia have now released firmware which corrects this issue. Please upgrade your N95 to firmware version 12.0.013 or newer firmware.

Why do I get an error message when I start MobyExplorer that my phone does not support JSR-75?
MobyExplorer uses the java FileConnection package, JSR-75, to manage the local file system on the phone. Most newer phones support this package. Please go here for a list of phones that support this package.

I can't connect to my FTP server!
There can be a number of different reasons for not being able to connect to your FTP server. Please go here for more information on how to troubleshoot FTP connection problems.

What do I need to do to use secure FTP over SSL/TLS (FTPS)?
Please see this page for information on how to set up FTP over SSL/TLS.

Why do I seem to loose the connection when I leave it idle for some time?
The FTP protocol is connection oriented, which means that you open up a connection to the FTP server and stay connected until the connection is closed. If you leave the connection idle for some time the connection will time out, and the FTP server will disconnect. How long this time out is depends on how the FTP server is configured.

How can I use MobyExplorer to manage the files on my own computer?
You need to install a FTP server software on your computer. There are literally hundreds of FTP server programs on the internet , both free and commercial. Just Google "FTP server" or just click this link and install a server of your choice.

How can I make the file system view larger?
That's easy! Just press the * button. This will take away the menu bar and make more space for the file system view.

I have a Nokia 6280 and MobyExplorer closes when I access the local file system
Some mobile phone operators (especially "3"), seem do disallow access to the local file system for applications which are not signed with their own operator certificate. In this case it is not possible to change the access permissions to anything else than "Not Allowed". Please go here for information on how to configure the access permissions, but if it is not possible to change the access permissions there is unfortunatelly not much you can do, but nag your operator to remove this limitation.
