Frequently Asked Questions

I have problems installing MobyToday
This is most likely due to your phone not supporting the Thawte root certificate. Please go here for information on how to find out if you have this certificate on your phone.

I get a message that access to the Calendar or File System was denied
This is due to the permission settings for MobyToday not being correctly configured. Please go here for instructions on how to configure the access permissions.

Why do I get an error message when I start MobyToday that my phone does not support JSR-75?
MobyToday uses the java PIM and FileConnection package, JSR-75, to access the phone calendar and to retrieve the background picture from the local file system on the phone. Most newer phones support this package. Please go here for a list of phones that support this package.

How do I configure MobyToday as a stand-by application?
This question applies to Sony Ericsson phones only
Please go here for instructions on how to configure MobyToday as a stand-by application.

My phone is on the list of phones that support stand-by application, but I still can't see the option to set MobyToday as wallpaper.
This question applies to Sony Ericsson phones only
Firstly make sure that you have followed the instructions that can be found here for how to configure MobyToday as a stand-by application. Please note particullarly that you need to have MobyToday in phone memory and not on the MemoryStick to be able to configure it as a stand-by application.

If this still doesn't help, then you are probably using an early released version of your phone. Sony Ericsson released some phones (particullarly K800 and K610) which did not include support for stand-by applications. Please upgrade these phones to the latest firmware, and you will get this support.

How can I use my favorite wallpaper in MobyToday.
You can use the same picture as a background picture in MobyToday, as you use as wallpaper on your phone. Please remember that the picture you use as background picture need to be the same size as the screen size, so you might need to scale it down. Please see this question to find out how to scale down your background picture.

Please remember that you should re-apply your wallpaper on the phone after you have set it in MobyToday, to make sure that it covers the whole screen. This page describes the use of background pictures further.

How can I use my favorite theme together with MobyToday?
You can make MobyToday blend in to the current theme, by using the same picture as background in MobyToday, as is used in your favorite theme. Please see this question to find out how extract the bakground picture of your favorite theme.

Please remember that you should re-apply your theme on the phone after you have set it in MobyToday, to make sure that it covers the whole screen. This page describes the use of background pictures further.

How can I resize my background picture to the screen size?
You can resize your background picture to the screen size using your favorite picture/photo editing software. Usually you will get such software bundled together with the software for your phone (like for example Adobe Photoshop Album). An example of free software which does this is Irfanview

You can find out what size your picture should be by going into menu Settings->Display Settings and scroll down to the "Path to background image" option. This will say what size your picture should have. This page describes the use of background pictures further.

How can I make my wallpaper cover the whole screen, including the status bar on the top and the command bar in the bottom of the screen?
This question applies to Sony Ericsson phones only
When MobyToday is set as a stand-by application, it will not cover the entire stand-by screen. The status bar on the top, and the command bar on the bottom is not used by MobyToday. To make your wallpaper/theme cover the entire screen you need to make sure that you re-apply the wallpaper/theme on your phone after you have set the background picture in MobyToday.

The picture used as background picture in MobyToday should be the same as the picture used as wallpaper/theme. The reason for having to re-apply the wallpaper/theme is a small bug in SE phones which will hopefully be corrected soon.

How can I extract the background picture from my favourite theme to put as background in MobyToday?
This question applies to Sony Ericsson phones only
The best way to extract the background picture from your favorite theme, is to use the free tool MyThemeCreator which can be downloaded from here. Sony Ericsson provides a theme creator which can be downloaded from their developer portal, but unfortunatelly this tool does not include the option of extracting the theme background picture.

Why does the phone keep asking me questions if I allow access to the calendar/file system?
This is most likely due to that you have installed MobyToday in the untrusted domain using the MobyToday.jar file only. MobyToday needs to be installed using the MobyToday.jad file with the instructions that can be found here.

It could also be that you haven't configured the access permissions for MobyToday properly. Please go here for information on how to configure the access permissions.

Sometimes MobyToday is not showing the correct time.
This question applies to Sony Ericsson phones only
This is a known fault in early versions of the firmware on newer Sony Ericsson phones. Please upgrade to the latest Sony Ericsson firmware and this fault will be gone.
